I am from a family of writers. My grandmother was a writer (a published author and literature and creative writing professor first at the University of Washington and later at Seattle Pacific University where she worked until she retired), my wife is a writer (among many other things), my little brother a writer; my oldest daughter is a writer with one published book under her name; and my oldest son a writer (writing for his school newspaper). So you can say it runs in the family. I am not a writer by trade, but I do write in a different capacity. Writing to me is more or less a catharsis. So this new project will be my catharsis.
So what is the new project? It’s my new journey, into the next stage of my life. For those of that don’t know me, I grew up in the great state of Alaska, with frequent visits to see relatives extended family and friends in Washington, Oregon, California and Arizona. I went to college in North Georgia, (right outside of Chattanooga, Tennessee), and then in Atlanta, Georgia; where I am writing this now in my make shift home office that is now in my basement. I listening to my daughter Ellie play her violin in the next room over. My office walls are littered with pictures my wife, my kids, and extended family; and then pictures of my wife an I living in, backpacking, and exploring Europe (she is from Czech Republic – where we met as students at the same university); pictures of exploring and living in Alaska and Washington (two different times living in Washington).
So what am I trying to accomplish? Perhaps part therapy. I am in corporate America and have been for several years. The career path I chose has been a great experience. But now there is a want for something more. Something that I can call my own; to travel again (and yes, we still travel; but this time we travel with seven of us, not just two. We still travel to exotic destinations; Central Europe, Costa Rica, and all through the U.S). We have trips planned this year to visit Europe again, and to also go back to Alaska this fall. Yes, return to Alaska.
I would say – my motivation is a renewed curiosity; a curiosity of what this next stage of my life looks like; a curiosity of exploration and adventure; a curiosity of old relationships; and new ones; a curiosity of how things work in this world. I hope to have conversations with friends both old and new; I hope to share with you my adventures; and also to share with you about what I am doing on my professional journey. I have decided to jump back in the small cap natural resource sector – so also thoughts and videos on such topics.
So this is start of the journey, but not so sure where it leads. But I am committed to having a journey; and I am committed to scratching my itching curiosity, and to living a life of curiosity and adventure.
